ABOUT THE VESTRY

The Vestry is elected annually by the congregation at the church AGM (the Rector's Churchwarden is appointed by the Rector). The Lay Representative is also elected annually at the AGM and is ex officio a Vestry member. The Rector is also an ex officio member. It is responsible for the day-to-day running of the church and it's administration. It also has a role to assist the priest in furthering the mission of the church and ensuring the pastoral care of the congregation. It's responsibilities are set out in the constitution and the Code of Canons of the Scottish Episcopal Church. Holy Name is a registered charity (No SC003118) and all members of the vestry are the charity trustees and so have legal responsibilities laid down by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.

The current members of the Vestry are:

Jim Boulton (Rector's Churchwarden), Ray Gascoigne (Vestry Secretary), Julie Gemmill,  Margaret Kelbie (Treasurer), Joe Lochrie, Robin McKechnie (People's Churchwarden)  Irene Richardson

Ex Officio: Rev Canon Dr Barnabas Oguguo (Rector, Chairman), Margaret Gascoigne (Lay Representative).

Why do we call it 'The Vestry?. No great mystery, it comes from the name of the room in the church where they historically met.  That's right - the vestry!
